Mazatlán Strengthens Its Position as a Sports Tourism Destination with L’Etape by Tour de France

The director of the Mazatlán Municipal Sports Institute, Fabiola Verde, announced that the city is fully prepared to welcome more than 6,000 cyclists participating in the international L’Etape Mazatlán by Tour de France, in addition to 600 urban runners, 10,000 soccer players competing in the Copa Pacífico, and hundreds of athletes taking part in karate and martial arts tournaments.

The events will bring an estimated 15,000 athletes and visitors to the port this weekend alone.

“The Tour de France event is this Sunday, and Mazatlán is dressed in celebration to host such an important competition,” said Verde. “We are working closely with our municipal government and under the direction of our Mayor, Estrella Palacios, to ensure that the logistics, coordination, and overall experience for both participants and spectators are exceptional.”

She emphasized that the city is ready and experienced in managing large-scale sporting events, with all departments collaborating to guarantee a smooth operation.

From Friday, November 7 through Sunday, November 9, Mazatlán’s streets will come alive with thousands of athletes competing in various disciplines. Verde highlighted that, throughout November, the city will host 16 major sporting events, generating a steady influx of 15,000 sports tourists each weekend on average.

In addition to L’Etape Mazatlán, upcoming events include mountain bike tournaments, the MTB Route, the Ciclotour, the Mazatlán Marathon, and national-level softball and Baseball 5 competitions—where the first official courts for the discipline in the state will be inaugurated.

Verde concluded that Mazatlán’s dynamic calendar reflects the city’s growing reputation as a premier destination for sports tourism:

“Mazatlán isn’t just beautiful—it offers variety, infrastructure, and organization. We’re proud to see how much we’ve grown in this field in just one year under the leadership of our Mayor.”
