Mazatlán’s mayor Estrella Palacios walks with the people As part of the 16 Days of Activism for a Life Free of Violence

In her message, she reiterated her commitment—as the municipality’s first elected female mayor—to work toward a safe city for all.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism for a Life Free of Violence, the Municipal Palace was illuminated in orange after a march that began at the Monument to the Mazatlecan Woman. The march was led by Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez, the director of the Municipal Women’s Institute, Marcela Herrera López, and several city councilwomen.

The walk brought together students from UAS, UPSIN, and Cobaes, as well as municipal employees, workers, and also men who joined the initiative. Throughout the route, participants chanted messages such as “Join in, no excuses,” “Women united will never be defeated,” and “You see it, you feel it, Estrella is here.”

“Today we walked from the Monument to the Mazatlecan Woman to this Municipal Palace to show the world that we’ve achieved it—that today women are taking public space with strength, with dignity, and with the certainty that now, we are all here,” the mayor said at the end of the march.

In her remarks, Palacios Domínguez reaffirmed her commitment, as the city’s first elected female mayor, to work every day toward a municipality that is safe for all women.

“My absolute commitment is to us: to work every day to build a municipality where no woman is alone, where no woman is afraid, and where all of us have the same opportunities to achieve our dreams,” she declared.

She added that the orange lighting of the Municipal Palace represents both a reminder and a shared responsibility.

“This Palace that shines orange today is a symbol that the fight against gender-based violence is a commitment we embrace both as a government and as a society,” she said.
