Mexico and Singapore strengthened diplomatic ties today as President Claudia Sheinbaum formally welcomed Singaporean President Tharma Shanmugaratnam to Palacio Nacional, marking the beginning of his official working visit to the country.
The reception followed full state protocol. President Sheinbaum greeted the Singaporean head of state at the Puerta de Honor — the entrance traditionally reserved for foreign leaders — where both delegations stood for the national anthems of Mexico and Singapore. The two presidents then posed for the official photograph in the Patio de Honor before moving inside the historic National Palace for a private bilateral meeting.
This visit underscores the growing cooperation between Mexico and Singapore in areas such as trade, innovation, education, and sustainable development. Both nations have expressed interest in deepening economic and cultural exchange, and today’s encounter is expected to open new avenues for collaboration.
Later this afternoon, Presidents Sheinbaum and Shanmugaratnam will deliver a joint press conference outlining the key points of their meeting and the agreements reached.
The visit marks another step in Mexico’s active engagement with Asia, reinforcing the country’s commitment to building strong alliances beyond the Americas.
