25 Swimmers Rescued on Mazatlán Beaches This Past Sunday

Basic medical evaluations determined that all rescued individuals showed only signs of fatigue and nervousness.

Members of the Aquatic Rescue Squadron, part of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, rescued 25 people in multiple interventions during a beach safety operation this Sunday across several areas of Mazatlán’s coastline.

Commander Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas reported that the rescue calls and activation of emergency protocols were once again caused by strong wave conditions. With these operations, a total of 46 people were rescued from Friday through Sunday.

One of the incidents involved the capsizing of a small boat near Isla de la Piedra, where a person was safely brought back to shore. In total, six rescue operations were carried out to assist swimmers struggling to exit the sea in the Sábalo 1, Sábalo 2, and Isla de la Piedra areas. One of them was a multiple rescue, involving 15 people brought safely to shore.

During that emergency, lifeguards from nearby areas, hotel staff, surfers, and local service providers joined forces to keep the swimmers afloat until they reached the shore, where they were assessed and found to be only shaken but unharmed.

Espinoza Bastidas urged both residents and visitors to respect beach warning flags, avoid entering the sea under the influence of alcohol, and follow lifeguard instructions to prevent accidents and ensure everyone’s safety.
