The Commission of Ecology and Sustainable Development of the State of Sonora (Cedes) reported that this Sunday a female black bear, which had been trapped for more than 36 hours at the top of a pine tree in the municipality of Agua Prieta, was successfully released back into her natural habitat.
According to Profepa, after a series of citizen reports, the bear was rescued on September 10 following her 36-hour stay atop a pine tree near a residence close to the border in Agua Prieta, Sonora.
The rescue was carried out by Profepa officers, in collaboration with the State Civil Protection Unit and the municipal government.
Afterward, the animal was cared for at the Sonora State Ecological Center, where veterinarians evaluated her condition to ensure she was fit to return to the wild.
Although the bear was wearing an identification tag, authorities were unable to determine her origin.
