Climate activists dyed Venice’s Grand Canal bright green this Saturday, as countries participating in COP30 in Brazil continue to struggle to reach an agreement on the crucial issue of phasing out fossil fuels.
Extinction Rebellion stated that its activists released an environmentally harmless dye into canals, rivers, lakes, and fountains across ten Italian cities to highlight “the massive effects of climate collapse.” Greta Thunberg was present at the “Stop Ecocide” protest in Venice, where demonstrators dressed entirely in red with veils covering their faces walked slowly among curious groups of tourists, according to images from the event.
The green dye was also poured into the Po River in Turin, the Reno River in Bologna, the Tara River in Taranto, as well as fountains in Padua and Genoa, the activist group added.
