Culiacán Red Cross Reports Successful Day of the Dead Operation with No Major Incidents

The operation was carried out with the goal of ensuring efficient and timely emergency coverage while safeguarding the well-being and health of families visiting cemeteries during the commemorations of November 1 and 2.

The Mexican Red Cross, Culiacán Delegation, deployed its 2025 Day of the Dead Operational Plan, which included preventive measures, prehospital care, and interagency coordination with municipal and state authorities.

The plan reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to protecting lives and providing humanitarian assistance. The Culiacán Red Cross Relief Coordination, along with its local bases, executed the plan with both volunteer and paid staff to ensure immediate response to any incidents.

The operation included the following resources per shift:

  • 8 fully equipped ambulances with defibrillators and stabilization equipment.

  • 20 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) per shift.

  • 1 utility vehicle for logistical support.

Operational coverage was maintained from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with fixed stations at major cemeteries and mobile patrols in high-traffic areas.

Among the fixed points where Red Cross personnel were stationed were the Civil Cemetery and the 21 de Marzo Cemetery, working in coordination with Civil Protection, Municipal Police, and the Health Department. The San Martín Funeral Park was covered exclusively by the Red Cross.

Ambulances and mobile units carried out preventive rounds at the San Juan, Jardines del Humaya, Bachigualato, La Lima, Alameda, and El Barrio cemeteries, as well as in the municipalities of Quilá, Costa Rica (Pueblo Nuevo), and Eldorado (San Juan, San Tomás, and Navito) — ensuring comprehensive response capacity in case of emergencies.

The operation was conducted jointly with Civil Protection, Firefighters, Municipal Police, the State Health Department, CRUM, and the 911 Emergency System (C4), strengthening coordination and emergency response capabilities.

“Our priority is to protect lives and provide immediate care to anyone who needs it. We deeply thank our volunteer and paid staff for their dedication, as well as the institutions that collaborated in this joint effort for the benefit of the community,” said Relief Coordinator EMT Omar López.

The final outcome of the operation reported minimal incidents and no serious emergencies, reflecting both the orderly behavior of families and the effectiveness of the preventive measures implemented.

The Culiacán Red Cross expressed gratitude to citizens and operational staff, emphasizing that prevention and solidarity are essential pillars in saving lives.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening its actions for the benefit of the community, guided by the Seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.
