Members of the Aquatic Rescue Squadron of the Mazatlán Municipal Police assisted a dolphin that became stranded on the shores of Isla de la Piedra.
After receiving the report, the rescue team followed marine animal response protocols and notified staff from the Mazatlán Aquarium, who arrived to conduct a medical assessment of the marine mammal and determine if it could be safely released.
With the help of a jetski, rescuers transported the two-meter-long dolphin back to open waters, where it was successfully released into its natural habitat.
Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas, Commander of the Aquatic Rescue Squadron, urged citizens to report similar incidents to 911 so trained personnel can respond promptly and ensure the animals’ safety.
