Progress Continues on the “Paths of Peace” Project in Mazatlán’s Central Park

In line with federal government initiatives, Mazatlán is preparing to host the “Paths of Peace” project in Central Park, which seeks to restore public spaces through renovations that promote community well-being.

In the area of the former City Forest, new structures are already taking shape, including the installation of a photo spot featuring Mazatlán’s iconic letters (yet to be unveiled), and the construction of a mesh covering that will serve as a canopy. In addition, municipal crews can be seen carrying out maintenance and remodeling tasks such as cutting grass, cleaning up litter, and repainting certain structures as part of efforts to beautify the space and encourage family gatherings.

A few days ago, Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez noted that the Paths of Peace project aims to reclaim abandoned areas of Central Park to host workshops, recreational activities, and other community events.

“In Central Park we had several modules and offices that were completely abandoned, so what we are doing is remodeling, rehabilitating, and painting them, while also adding murals. People are already coming to take pictures and making the most of these spaces,” she said.

She added:

“We’ve also built rebound walls like basketball courts, tourist letters that will soon be unveiled, and we’re working to bring life back to the abandoned dock so we can have small boats, bicycles, and more options for Mazatlecan families to spend the day and enjoy.”

The Mayor also announced that a calendar will be established to manage events and activities in Central Park. Upcoming installations include new children’s play areas and a renovated pet zone to continue offering programs for the community.

“We are preparing an event calendar with the support of the Culture, Well-being, Sports, and Tourism departments, which will soon be shared with the public. Our goal is to recover our spaces, beautify them, and make them functional. For example, we’re currently installing more than 65 new lights,” she highlighted.

She further explained:

“What remains to be done is installing the new children’s playgrounds, which have been a frequent request through Citizen Services. These will be completely new and located in two areas of Central Park. We are also planning a dedicated pet area within the park.”

Mayor Palacios Domínguez stated that the renovations in Central Park are being carried out with resources from the Mazatlán City Council through public works and maintenance efforts, with additional support from local business leaders through inter-chamber collaborations.

The inauguration of these works is expected to take place in October.
