Sectur Sinaloa Aims to Attract More Visitors During the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Sinaloa’s Secretary of Tourism, Mireya Sosa Osuna, announced that the state is working hand in hand with federal tourism officials to ensure Mazatlán and other municipalities become must-visit destinations during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Sosa Osuna explained that collaboration with Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of Mexico’s Federal Tourism Secretariat (Sectur), seeks to extend the World Cup experience beyond the official host cities. Discussions are also underway with Mazatlán’s Mayor Estrella Palacios and the hotel sector to plan local activities that will attract visitors.

“We’re working closely with the federal Tourism Secretariat and local hotel associations to activate events and experiences in Mazatlán and across Sinaloa,” said Sosa Osuna. “President Claudia Sheinbaum’s vision is to democratize soccer—bringing the excitement of the World Cup beyond host cities like Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey to key destinations such as Mazatlán, Culiacán, Los Mochis, and even our magical towns.”

She also highlighted that her upcoming participation in the Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR) in Madrid in January 2026 will be crucial for promoting Sinaloa internationally ahead of the World Cup. With direct flight connections to major host cities, Sosa Osuna said Sinaloa is strategically positioned to benefit from the influx of an estimated 5.5 million tourists.

“We’ll present a full promotional plan at FITUR to start selling travel packages months in advance,” she noted. “Given that fans often have a week between matches, we want to position Mazatlán as the perfect stopover for relaxation, culture, and beach experiences.”

New Flight Route to Boost Tourism ✈️

Sosa Osuna also announced a new Mazatlán–Torreón route operated by TAR Airlines, officially launching Monday. The new connection is expected to strengthen air connectivity and attract more visitors to Sinaloa’s coast.

“We’re very happy to expand our flight network. The Mazatlán–Torreón route will bring more tourism, economic growth, and social development for the people of Sinaloa,” she said.
