Miss Piggy Is Getting Her Own Movie — Produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone

According to reports, Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up to produce an independent film about the Muppets’ glamorous star, Miss Piggy.

The script will be written by comedian and playwright Cole Escola, known for the hit Broadway musical Oh, Mary!

On the podcast Las Culturistas, Lawrence revealed:

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to announce it, but I will. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole will write it.”

When hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers asked if the two actresses would appear in the film, Lawrence added:

“I think so — we have to!”

To date, there have been eight Muppets feature films, beginning with The Muppet Movie in 1979. The most recent, Muppets Most Wanted, was released in 2014. This would mark the first Muppets movie produced by the Jim Henson Company centered on a single character.

Meanwhile, The Muppet Show is set to return next year with a special TV anniversary episode celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original series, featuring Sabrina Carpenter as the guest star.

The lovable diva Miss Piggy has long been one of the Muppets’ most iconic and beloved characters. In 2023, the Duke of Edinburgh humorously admitted he was “worried Miss Piggy might storm the royal box” during the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

During a charity event, the Duke joked:

“Everyone in the royal box was nervous when Miss Piggy appeared. There was an empty seat behind me, and we didn’t know who it was for. Suddenly, we thought it might be her — and once that rumor started, everyone around us got very nervous.”

In a review of Muppets Most Wanted, The Independent critic Geoffrey Macnab wrote:

“Everyone knows a sequel is never as good,” the Muppets admit early on in their latest adventure — and they’re absolutely right. There’s plenty of cheeky humor in the style of Mel Brooks, but the plot becomes increasingly dull and repetitive.”

He added that Muppets Most Wanted offered “plenty of musical numbers, celebrity cameos, and silly wordplay,” but fell short of the original’s charm.
