Mazatlán Athletes Return Home as Heroes After Winning International Medals

The Rafael Buelna International Airport in Mazatlán became a stage of pride and emotion as two young local athletes, Sigi Sergio David Cruz Sánchez and Pablo Hazael Valencia Arreola, returned home after earning medals in international competitions. Their arrival was celebrated with cheers, music, and heartfelt applause from family, friends, and city officials.

Sigi Cruz achieved a remarkable feat at the 2025 Junior Parapan American Games in Chile, capturing two gold medals in shot put and javelin throw — victories that not only brought glory to Mexico but also highlighted his determination and talent on the world stage.

Meanwhile, Pablo Valencia shone on the track, winning silver in the 800-meter race at the Central American and Caribbean School Games held in Córdoba, Colombia. His accomplishment added to a string of strong performances by Mazatlán’s rising athletes, including Jennifer Valeria Tirado Chavarín, who earned silver and bronze medals in swimming.

At their arrival, the athletes were greeted by a vibrant crowd led by Fabiola Judith Verde Rosas, Director of the Mazatlán Sports Institute, and Jesús Bermúdez Lizárraga, Trustee of Villa Unión. The sound of banda music filled the terminal as the community came together to celebrate their achievements — a powerful reminder of Mazatlán’s growing presence in the world of sports.

These young champions embody the discipline, resilience, and passion that define Mazatlán’s new generation of athletes — and their triumphs are an inspiration to all who dream of taking their hometown spirit to the global arena.
