A strong odor inside the ISSSTE Hospital in Mazatlán led to dizziness among several people and triggered a chemical emergency protocol on Friday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 2:15 p.m. from the hospital located on Carretera Internacional and Avenida Mazatlán, prompting administrators and Civil Protection authorities to activate the procedure for a possible chemical spill. Outpatient services, the pharmacy, and the laboratory areas were evacuated as a precaution, while emergency crews — including Mazatlán Firefighters and Veteran Firefighters — entered the facility equipped with protective suits and detection instruments to identify the source of the odor.
One lane of Avenida Mazatlán was temporarily closed to allow emergency teams to operate. After a thorough hour-long inspection using gas detectors, authorities ruled out the presence of any hazardous substances.
Medical services in the emergency and hospitalization areas have since resumed, while outpatient appointments for the day were rescheduled.
